Fabric Story: The Choice Behind Every Cardi
Heavyweight Design Needs Heavyweight Fabric
Each Cardi Craze cardigan is knitted at 3-gauge(3G) & 5-gauge (5G) – one of the thickest knit levels. A single piece weighs nearly 900g, almost double the weight of a high street knit. This weight creates our signature 3D sculptural texture and bold presence, but it also demands a fabric that can truly hold its shape.
We’ve tried every alternative – wool, cotton, and recycled polyester – but none could deliver the bold colours, weight, and softness our designs require.
Why Not Wool?
Wool yarn is too thin, with larger knit holes that can’t support 5G heavyweight designs. The structure collapses.
It can be itchy on the skin.
Hard to care for: wool shrinks easily and often needs dry cleaning.
Wool sounds premium, but for 900g statement cardigans it simply can’t hold the bold.
Why Not Cotton?
Cotton is perfect for lighter garments like T-shirts or socks.
At cardigan weight (900g), it stretches, sags, and becomes shapeless.
High-cotton knits can feel stiffer and are less warm due to breathability.
Cotton keeps you cool, but it can’t carry the weight and warmth of Cardi Craze cardigans.
Why Not Recycled Polyester?
Current recycled polyester struggles with bright, saturated colours – most shades turn out muted.
Recycling shortens fibres, making fabrics sometimes stiffer, less soft, and less durable.
Limited supply makes heavyweight 5G knitting difficult.
We tested it, but recycled blends couldn’t deliver the bold colours and cloud-soft feel our brand stands for.
Why Our Blend Works
Our carefully chosen polyester–acrylic mix is not a compromise – it’s a deliberate choice:
Colour: vivid, saturated shades that won’t fade.
Shape: strong enough to hold 3G & 5G, 900g weight without sagging.
Comfort: cloud-soft, breathable, non-itch.
Warmth: delivers wool-like cosiness without the scratch.
Care: machine washable, no shrinkage, no fuss.
